Fashion Film Friday: 101 Dalmatians

Nov 1, 2013

One of my favorite blogs is Pink Peonies and Rach's recent Cruella de Vil's inspired Halloween costume
gave me the inspiration to start Fashion Film Friday back up. My love for fashion and films has been
hold for the past few weeks and I think its time to embrace it again. With Winter around the corner
there's nothing better than getting cozy with a good film and a hot drink.

Anyways, how fabulous does Rach look in this outfit ! It doesn't scream costume but you can definitely
see the inspiration. Plus, 101 Dalmatians was one of my favorite movies growing up. I remember making
my mom take me to McDonald's every week because I wanted to collect every dalmatian in the Happy
Meals. I know its a little too late for a Halloween inspired post but it's never to late to starting thinking
 of next years costume.

Happy November !

Fashion Film Friday: The Great Gatsby

Jun 15, 2013

Better late than never right? I know it's technically Saturday morning but I just couldn't put this baby together faster, not until I felt it was great. And here it is. I finally watched The Great Gatsby on Thursday and loved it. I wanted to kick myself for not seeing it sooner. It's one of my favorite books of all time. I love the scenery, the parties, the love story, the betrayal, and of course the fashions.

For those of you who haven't read or seen The Great Gatsby let me give you a little recap:
Jay Gatsby met the wonderfully poised Daisy Buchanan five years prior before going to war. When he met Daisy he pretended he was wealthy to win her over because he knew a lady of her status wouldn't notice him if he didn't have status. Daisy promised to wait for Gatsby until after the war was over. But instead she married Tom Buchanan, a very wealthy aristocrat. Gatsby was devastated but was still determined to win Daisy back. So, he gets involved in a lot of illegal businesses, mainly selling liquor, to win his millions. He buys an estate directly across the dock of Daisy and Tom's estate. He throws elaborate  parties every weekend where people from all over New York City come to celebrate. Gatsby does this to hopefully win Daisy back by having her walk in to one of his parties. But then it just so happens Daisy's cousin, Nick Carraway, moves in to the home next to Gatsby's. He wins Nick's friendship and convinces him to invite Daisy for tea so that he can reunite with his long lost love. I don't want to say any more and give anymore away if you haven't read this or seen the movie, so all I will say is don't expect a happy ending, but the movie is beautiful nonetheless.

Fashion Film Friday: An Education

Mar 15, 2013

A coming-of-age story about a teenage girl in 1960s suburban London, and how her life changes with the arrival of a playboy nearly twice her age.

If you love London, Paris, Romance, Drama, Fashion, 60's Fashion to be exact you'll enjoy this amazing movie.

Fashion Film Friday: The Perks of Being a Wallflower

Mar 1, 2013

The Perks of Being a Wallflower is one of both my favorite books and movies. The book follows Charlie a wallflower in high school and through out the book you see through his eyes all the different personalities in high school. What makes Charlie special is that he says what everyone is thinking but is afraid to say. This is one of my favorite quotes from the book:

"Why do nice people choose the wrong people to date? Charlie, we accept the love we think we deserve."

The Perks of Being a Wallflower:

Fashion Film Friday: The Hunger Games

Feb 15, 2013

Hunger Games has got to be one of my favorite book series, but I must warn you not everyone can finish the third book in the series. If you like to read I do recommend this series if your not emotional when it comes to books. Plus, Katniss Everdeen is a bad ass, can't wait for the second movie to come out.

Fashion Film Friday: Silver Linings Playbook

Feb 1, 2013

Best Romantic comedy of the year with a dark twist right here. And I can't wait to hear Jennifer Lawrence's speech if she wins the Oscar because she's so refreshing and down to earth. I love that she doesn't take acting so seriously. Here's a little snippet of her February Vanity Fair issue:

"Not to sound rude, but [acting] is stupid," Lawrence told Vanity Fair. "Everybody’s like, ‘How can you remain with a level head?’ And I’m like, ‘Why would I ever get cocky? I’m not saving anybody’s life. There are doctors who save lives and firemen who run into burning buildings. I’m making movies. It’s stupid.’"

Fashion Film Friday: The Notebook

Jan 4, 2013

The Notebook is the ultimate chic flick/ romance movie of all time. When you see this movie all you want is to have Noah and Allie's love story. If you haven't seen it, SEE IT ! You'll laugh, cry, be angry, smile all at the same time. Tomorrow ABC Family will show a special version of the movie with deleted scenes at 8pm eastern, you know I'll be watching.

Fashion Film Friday: Midnight in Paris

Dec 21, 2012

Midnight in Paris is one of my favorite Woody Allen movies. The movie follows a screenwriter and his fiancé vacationing in Paris with his fiancés conservatives parents. He is a successful screenwriter in Hollywood but he is creatively unfulfilled with life. He wants to explore the world and move to Paris, but his fiancé is perfectly comfortable with him living in California and being a profitable screenwriter. While in Paris he explores the city to help write his first novel he is struggling to write.

As he walks through Paris every night at exactly midnight he is transported back in time and meets famous creative well-accomplished people. A few of the awesome people of the 1920's he meets are F. Scott Fitzgerald, Josephine Baker and Pablo Picasso. The movie is amazing, I mean who doesn't dream about moving to Paris and pretending they are Coco Chanel.

Fashion Film Friday: How To Marry A Millionaire

Dec 14, 2012

This is one of my favorite movies besides Breakfast at Tiffany's obviously. Marilyn Monroe plays the cutest ditzy chick ever. How To Marry A Millionaire follows three gorgeous gold diggers around New York City trying to literally marry a millionaire. Shactze Page (Lauren Bacall), Loco Dempsey (Betty Grable), and ditzy Pola Debevoise (Marilyn Monroe) rent a luxurious penthouse from a millionaire trying to avoid the IRS, who is hiding out in Europe. They use this penthouse to hopefully attract eligible wealthy men.

I don't want to give too much away because I think this is like the mother of all romantic comedies, its a must see. It has some of the best comedic moments ever. Plus, the gold diggers are Bergdorf Goodman showroom models, so they have the most fabulous 1950's wardrobe. And they have a five minute fashion show showcasing the best 1950's fashion.

Snippet from Movie:

Pola Debevoise: You know who I’d like to marry?
Loco Dempsey: Who?
Pola Debevoise: Rockefeller.
Loco Dempsey: Which one?
Pola Debevoise: I don’t care.
Loco Dempsey: I wouldn’t mind marrying a Vanderbilt.
Pola Debevoise: Or Mr. Cadillac.
Schatze Page: No such person. I checked.
Loco Dempsey: Is there a Mr. Texaco?

Fashion Film Friday: Pretty Woman

Dec 7, 2012

Okay so who hasn't watched Pretty Woman? No one, yeah that's what I thought. This one is a classic. Who doesn't love a story about a prostitute who actually has a heart, cares about dental hygiene, and has a millionaire fall in love with her and they ride off into the sunset and happily ever after. Its a cute easy film to watch whenever you're bored and don't know what to watch on netflix.

Fashion Film Friday: Easy A

Nov 30, 2012

Easy A is one of my favorite movies because of three simple reasons: 1. It pays homage to the talented film maker John Hughes, who wrote The Breakfast Club, Sixteen Candles, Pretty in Pink, Ferris Bueller's Day Off, Weird Science, and of course Home Alone. 2. Hello ! Emma Stone, gotta love her sarcastic sense of humor. And 3. Penn Badgley a.k.a Dan Humphrey a.k.a Lonely Boy from Gossip Girl need I say more?

If you haven't already seen this hilarious 21st century version of The Scarlet Letter you must do so. Emma plays Olive, who to get out going camping with her best friend tells her she has a hot date with a college guy, which was a total lie because she stayed home singing along to Natasha Bedingfield and acting a fool in her house. The next day Rhiannon, Olive's best friend, asks her how it went and she ends lying saying about losing her virginity, someone hears the lie and starts a rumor. And then all hell breaks loose and Olive has to pretend to have sex with her friend who is gay to save him from the high school stereotype. One thing leads to another and she ends up pretending to have sex with all the nerdy boys to save their reputations and in return she gets money and gift cards to the mall. She starts wearing the red A because in school they are studying The Scarlet Letter and she can relate.

That's not even the scandalous part, here it goes, so Micah, a 22 year old high school senior, yes super dumb but super hot, finds out he has chlamydia. Of course Olive being the good person she is covers for him saying it was her fault, when really she was just covering for her school counselor Mrs. Griffith, who was having in affair with Micah (yup he's that hot). But the reason Olive covers for Mrs. Griffith is because she is married to her favorite teacher Mr. Griffith and wants to spare his marriage. Yup scandalous but hilarious because Emma's comedic timing is amazing.

Fashion Film Friday: Cruel Intentions

Oct 26, 2012

It wouldn't be Friday without Fashion Film Friday ! Cruel Intentions is one of those movies I love to watch, but I forget that I HATE the ending. Every time I watch it I'm so excited about the twisted love story and then I remember the gorgeous, but oh so messed up in the head Sebastian dies. Oh, and my favorite scene is when Reese Witherspoon is coming up the escalator and that song by Colorblond by Counting Crows is play, it gets me every single time.

Fashion Film Friday: She's All That

Oct 5, 2012

With denim overalls coming back in style and everything, I thought what movie would be more appropriate for fashion film Friday then She's All That (really it was my boyfriends idea). But anyways, I loved this movie. Actually, let me be honest I love any movie with Freddie Prinze Jr., he was so high school dreamy. In this movie he plays a jock, typical, and his friends bet him to turn the most nerdiest (that's not even a word) girl in school into the school's prom queen. And of course through the process he feels bad for the bet and falls in love with the geeky cute girl in the messy overalls. How cute are those long RCVA overalls on the top left? I remember how this was all I liked wearing in elementary and jr. high school.

Fashion Film Friday: Bridesmaids

Sep 21, 2012

If you have not seen Bridesmaids yet, I suggest you do like RIGHT NOW ! You are in for a good laugh because Kristen Wiig, Maya Rudolph, and all the other ladies will have you cracking up. This is like the female version of The Hangover. This past weekend I was wedding dress shopping with my soon to be sister-in-law and I couldn't help but remember about this movie. Besides the movie being hilarious, Kristen Wigg's character wears the cutest shrunken blazers and day dresses. This is definitely a feel good movie.

Fashion Film Friday: Sixteen Candles

Sep 14, 2012

I don't how this came about but I was talking with my co-worker at work this week about I don't even remember what, but it led to me talking about how on my sixteenth birthday everyone forgot it. How I felt like Molly Ringwald in Sixteen Candles all day because most of my family and friends didn't remember my birthday until after it passed. How Rude ! (in my Stephanie Tanner voice). So, of course  my brain was like FASHION FILM FRIDAY ! FASHION FILM FRIDAY ALERT! Who doesn't love John Hughes movies ? On this day that is suppose to be so special in a young girl's life I was just hoping to find my own Jake Ryan to make my day better, but that didn't happen because unfortunately my life is not a John Hughes movie. But I did find my Jake Ryan a year later when I was seventeen and I'm still with him today.

Fashion Film Friday: Clueless

Aug 31, 2012

New Segment ! New Segment alert ! With my love for movies and fashion I thought it would only be appropriate to combine both. Who doesn't love Clueless? As Cher Horowitz would say AS IF.
Below are some cute findings from Forever 21 and American Apparel that can be translated as the modern day Clueless outfits. Oh, and remember that outfit-selecting-program Cher had in her closet I still want that. It would make getting dressed so much easier and fun. Have a great Friday !
