Splurge or Save: Embroidered Leather Jackets

Mar 20, 2017

Embroidery its everywhere! Literally. On denim, leather, velvet, shoes, you name it. Last spring it was all about the patches and this year its all about embroidery. Ever since  Gucci's Spring 2016 runway show it seems all the retailers have been trying to remake the beautiful embroidered leather jacket seen everywhere.

I'm actually loving the embroidery trend, it just gives everything such a fresh update for Spring. You can easily buy a pair of jeans or a leather jacket with some cute embroidered flowers on them your wardrobe is updated for Spring just like that. You don't have to buy something super trendy you're only going where for one season. It is an update on classic items already in your wardrobe. If you don't want to spend money but like the trend, you can definitely buy embroidered patches that give you a similar effect and put on a clothing item you already own.

Even shoes are getting embroidered as well. Thanks to Gucci too the black leather mules with embroidered roses are also being remade by retailers like  Forever 21. That's what I love about  Forever 21 that they're quick to remake something for the masses at affordable prices. Because lets be honest not every trend is worth spending hundreds of dollars on.

With that being said I love that the  Forever 21 leather embroidery jacket is less but in this case I am in love with the  BLANKNYC one and I'm debating getting it. The embroidery just looks more subdued and organic and it goes well with the worn leather look I love.

Splurge or Save: Chanel Espadrilles

Apr 11, 2014

Splurge vs. Save:

I wish I could buy some Chanel Espadrilles and not have a guilty conscious, but unfortunately
that's not the case for me. And probably for a lot of you out there still with student loans and
credit card debt too. If you don't mind not having those coveted double C's on your feet then
you can just google or go to shopstyle.com and type "espadrilles flats" and viola! A whole
bunch of options without having to worry about next months rent.

Splurge or Save: Quilted Moto Jacket

Oct 3, 2013

Love the update on the Moto Jacket with the quilted texture. Kind of reminds
me of the classic quilted Chanel bag every girl dreams of owning one day.

Splurge or Save: Lip Prints

If you've been reading my blog you know I have a slight obsession with sweatshirts preferably
gray ones. If they are embellished, bejeweled, have sequins or prints I gotta have them.
Markus Lupfer designs some of the most funky cool looking sweatshirts but for some reason
the Forever 21 sweatshirt is just catching my attention more (or maybe my wallet's attention).

Splurge or Save: A Lace Daydream

Aug 22, 2013

One of my favorite collections of all time was Valentino's Spring 2012 Ready-to-wear collection. All the pieces were so lady-like and sophisticated. From the laces, silks, goddess-like braids to the delicate jewelry the whole collection was a gracefully seductive dream. Since, this dress is Valentino you know there was going to be a hefty price for it. But you can have a memory of this collection with this Ark & Co. lace dress for under $60 bucks. There also are similar versions of this dress I've seen at our favorite fast-fashion chain stores Zara and H&M.

If I had Alexander Wang money I would so get this perfection of a bag. Its black leather, classic, spacious and with hints of rose gold hardware (rose gold is my favorite) its just perfect. The Nasty Gal one is a close call may not be leather but it will do and your wallet will love it too.

Splurge or Save: Gold Metal Sandals

Jun 17, 2013

I've been window stocking these Steve Madden sandals for a while now, but I'm just waiting for them to start giving away their little discount scratch off cards. I've learned my lesson with them. One day I bought a pair of boots full price and the next day they up to 40% discount scratch off cards, you know my wallet was mad.

Anyways, I first saw these babies by Guiseppe Zanotti and fell in love but let's be real it's not realistic for me to walk around wearing $800 sandals, while I still have student loans to pay off. So, when I saw the Steve Madden version I decided these will be my go-to sandals this summer just waiting on that scratch off card.

Splurge or Save: Metallic Low Wedges

May 20, 2013

Save: Forever 21 Open-Toe Demi Wedge Sandals

I don't know about you but I'm kinda loving the Forever 21 version and not just because I'll save over $100 dollars but because I like just the hint of metallic. But I can't lie the J.Crew one's are cute too if you're not afraid to be too trendy.

Splurge or Save: Rockstud Ballerina Flats

May 7, 2013

Save: Forever 21 $24.80

I keep seeing this babies knocked off everywhere I go. I'm not a fan of pointy flats but they're growing on me. Definitely really contemplating getting the beige/soft pink Forever 21 version because lets be honest if I'm not a big fan of pointy shoes why spend almost $700 dollars on them. Even though the Valentino ones are adorable in patent leather it just wouldn't feel right to wear simple flats that are so expensive. That's just my logic, hey if you got the money and want them by all means go ahead and purchase those babies.

Splurge or Save: Quilted Chain Satchel

Apr 3, 2013

A black bag is a staple for the everyday woman whether she needs it for work or play. Its just up to you if you want to splurge or save but I think these both are equally gorgeous. Don't you think?!

Splurge or Save: Tangerine Jackets

Mar 4, 2013

Spring is on its way and slowly but surely getting a bit warmer. And what I love most about spring is JACKETS! Yes, jackets because there are so many cute ones to choose from especially at Zara. But how cute is this Mossimo by Target one. I know the descriptions for both say coats but according to New York winters trust me this is a jacket.

Splurge or Save: Color block Boatneck Tee

Feb 18, 2013

I don't know if you guys remember this color block tee from J.Crew but when it first came out it sold like hot cakes. And now its back and I got myself a hot pink one and love it. I just love simple classic items with pops of colors to make it modern. Now, I'm actually considering getting the JCP one in lime green.

Splurge or Save: The Damask Jeans

Jan 10, 2013

I have the Forever 21 version of these jeans and there's not one day I don't wear them that I don't get a compliment. I feel that for trends that can easily fade you shouldn't spend so much money on. On the other had I think if your gonna buy a staple piece like a little black dress, a trench coat, or button up blouse you should consider the quality over the price, just sayin'.

Splurge or Save: The Leopard Skinny

Dec 10, 2012

Let me just say that my co-worker has the Target Skinnies and they fit her like a glove. I've heard Current/Elliott's fit you like a glove too but if you don't usually spend $150 or more on jeans I'd say go to Target. I think I might even order these myself. I like that the print is faded giving it a more subtle appearance, well as subtle as you can get in leopard. These would look great with a loosely fitted tee in black or white with ankle boots or chelsea booties I blogged about last week.

Splurge or Save: Fifty Shades of Grey Necklace

Nov 29, 2012

Besides actually loving the book series Fifty Shades of Grey, yes I loved it don't judge me, I'm loving this handcuff necklace. Its very delicate and tough at the same time. I'm liking the Emitations.com version more not only because of the price, but it looks more simple and polished. Would you rock this Fifty Shades of Grey inspired necklace?

Splurge or Save: Jeweled Sweater

Oct 30, 2012

I've had a crush on this J. Crew Jeweled Sweater for a while now that I even blogged about it before as a Lunch Break Craving. But how cute is this Dorothy Perkins version for half the price, I even like the peter pan collar addition. I have an unhealthy obsession with sweatshirts because they are so comfy and when I find a bedazzled one I just need to have a moment like this one. Below are some other embellished sweaters for the upcoming holiday season:

Splurge or Save: The Graphic Tee

Oct 3, 2012

Does the T-shirt on the left look familiar to you? If you've been keeping up to date with fashion week then you have. It seems everyone and their mother is wearing this Balenciaga Egyptofunk tee and if not they're seen wearing the sweatshirt outside all the fashion shows. If you don't feel you can dish $295 on a tee that is almost sold out everywhere then head to your local Urban Outfitters and get the one on the right for $29. If you're a democratic and have a funny bone you'd love the Barack to the Future Tee at Urban. And if you perfer not to participate in politics, Forever 21 has a really cute galactic inpsired tee.

Splurge or Save: Lace Espadrilles

Sep 17, 2012

I must confess I kind of have an infatuation with all things lace, so you already know how I feel about these espadrilles. The Valentino ones are gorgeous as are all his usual items, but the Jeffrey Campbell ones speak to my wallet, literally. They use to be $70 before the sale, which still were a great deal compared to the Valentino ones. They are both equally pretty, it all depends on how much you want to spend on lace flat espadrilles.

Splurge or Save: The Eagle has Landed

Sep 5, 2012

How good would this necklace look with a t-shirt to dress it up? The Lanvin one of course is fabulous if you have that type of disposable income like that. But the Topshop version is definitely crush worthy too. I was going to feature a Forever 21 one that believe or not was better looking than these two, but of course in true Forever 21 fashion when something is a deal it sells out.

Splurge or Save: Side Panel Dress

Aug 28, 2012

Want to appear slimmer without working a sweat? The side panel dress does just that, well it doesn't work miracles but you do look slimmer and more put together. I recently saw the Stella McCartney version on Alicia Keys and loved it. I'm sorry but miss McCartney sure knows how to make good looking well tailored dresses that fit all different body types. But that price tag ! In comes the Forever 21 version, still attractive, definitely affordable, of course the fabric and construction won't make your body look amazing like the McCartney version, but it'll do and you can still buy yourself that yummy iced caramel macchiato.
