Since I have a love for using Adobe Illustrator and Photoshop and I went to school for product development, I figured why not combine my love of blogging and developing. For those of you who aren't really sure what Apparel Product Development is, its using technology like illustrator to create, merchandise and communicate during the phase of development. For example, its the whole going back and forth with your factory in lets say Italy who is making this sweater for you. You have to be specific with them about sizing, color, fit, graphic etc. Doing this includes doing trend research, and sourcing for colors and patterns.
What a lot of people don't know is that not everyone is a designer, you have development teams with head designers who work together to create new items based on last years best sellers and trend forcasting for the season. So, basically I get to look at fashion shows, people watch, analyze magazines and what people on television are wearing to come up with items that are fashionable yet profitable too.
Right now I am working for a wholesale fashion jewelry and accessories showroom where I get to create accessories for retailers like Urban Outfitters, Forever 21, Free People, and Charming Charlie by working with the sales team and buyers. This blog will basically be my trend research and portfolio all in one. Anywho, I'm currently obsessed with motif sweaters and I hope you guys enjoy this segment : )

ReplyDeletethere's definitely a sweater craze. Great post! I majored in FMM for my AS, now in Cosmetics and Fragrance Marketing. Small world Cindi!
ReplyDeleteUmm could you have a cooler job?! Love these illustrations!
ReplyDeleteIsn’t That Charming.
I think it's so awsome that w kind of do the same thing. While you are more of the development side of fashion, I am more on the productive side of it. I work in Techical Design and ensure that the product fits perfectly before it can go to stores/catalogs/online. I love what I do and it sounds like you do too! :)
ReplyDeleteThat's a really awesome job and I can sense how much you love what you do.
ReplyDeleteOh me! Oh my! The little yorkie sweater is killing me with cuteness! Love it :)

ReplyDeleteLove the sweaters, especially the french bulldog one. I did a post of motif sweaters last week - if you haven't seen it yet, it was posted last Friday. :)
